How To Start a SEO Blog with No Experience

You have probably thought about starting a SEO blog before, but you have questions.

In this article, I will help you understand what it takes to start a SEO blog, and why you should have one.

What is a SEO blog?

A blog is short for “web log” which can be perceived as money things, but was originally intended to be a personal online journal.

Since those days, many things have changed, and the people simply using blogs as merely a personal journal are few and far between.

That is because the benefits of having a blog that appeals to the masses can be very lucrative although time consuming and tedious.

Where should I start a SEO blog?

Almost everybody looking to start a blog needs to know what to do from square one.

First things first, everybody needs a web hosting company.

A web host stores files remotely in storage devices known as servers.

Once somebody visits your web page, those files are released to the viewer.

This way, the owner of the website does not have to store files on their own computer.

More on web hosting can be seen in other articles that I have written.

Pick a topic that you are passionate about.

For example, if you are passionate about off page seo, or link building, you should consider starting a blog dedicated to just that.

The reason I say choose something that you are passionate about is because the first few months of owning a blog can be very lonely.

It is important that what you are writing about doesn’t take a lot out of you.

Once you have your topic that you want to write about, you must choose a domain name.

Since there are so many domain names taken, you must think of an original name that has at least something to do with your topic.

You can check domain name availability at several places such as GoDaddy.

An example of a domain name is trainerkarthik.com.

They specialize in web hosting, and you can tell that just by their name.

Types of blogs

Almost every company out there has a blog, because it is great for business.

Companies will write articles about their company or industry, which will help increase the amount of traffic related to their website.

On the other hand, there are individuals who have blogs, just to get their ideas out there.

Professional blogs are usually not listed on the home page of the website.

In most cases, there is a separate page within the website where the blog is located.

This way, viewers wont get confused about what the websites original intention is.

If there is an oil company that has a website, in most cases, going to their front page will not show a blog.

It will be located in another part of the website.

Individual blogs usually have the blog on the home page.

A good example is PerezHilton, which is a celebrity gossip blog.

If your main intention is to get your ideas out there for the world to see, having the blog on the main page is your best bet.

Most individuals who write blogs choose this method over any other method out there.

WordPress

WordPress is the most common form of blog developing with personal blogs and even professional websites.

WordPress has become wildly popular because of its ease of use, and because you don’t need to know programming in order to use it.

Before signing up for a web hosting service, make sure that they allow a free installation of WordPress.

Everything can be done with a few clicks of the mouse, and you can have your website up and running in a day.

This is very appealing to people who have busy schedules, because in one weekend, you can have your website started and ready to lure in customers.

Gaining Attention:

The best way to get attention to your blog is to write, write, write.

The more content that your website has, the more valuable it is to search engines.

It is common knowledge that Google indexes your web page based on how much content it has among with a large degree of other factors.

Make sure that your blog posts are related to the category that you are looking to get into search engines for.

For example, if you have a cooking blog, it wouldn’t be a good idea to write about politics or sports.

This may confuse Google or other search engines to believe that your website is not authentic.

Other things your can do is submit your blog posts to social bookmarking sites such as Digg and Stumbleupon.

This will increase traffic to your site as well as give viewers the chance to share with others.

Should I start a SEO blog?

Absolutely! Starting a blog is not that difficult and can get your ideas out there to the masses and maybe make you a few bucks.

If you have a business, starting a blog can be a major influence on who your customers are.

If you are an individual who has a hobby that you would like to share with the world, starting a blog is the perfect start to getting your ideas out there, and meeting with similar ideas.

4 Myths about starting a blog

Many people think that it is quite difficult to set up a blog, this is a myth and below I am going to expel some of the most common myths.

Myth 1. Cost

I hear many people say that setting up a successful blog is time consuming, hard, and most of all costly. It does not and should not cost a lot of money to set up a blog.

First of all you can do it for free.

There are plenty of free blog hosting sites around.

However, if you want to start a successful blog that generates income or attracts a large audience then a free blog is not the way to go.

That being said, a paid blog is relatively inexpensive and will cost you less than Rs 2000 per year.

Plus you own it and control it.

You do not need to pay someone, hire a web designer or a company to set up a blog for you. If you have a computer and the internet then you are ready to go!

Myth 2. Time

Plain and simple, this is incorrect. It can be done in under 15 mins.

Myth 3. Skill

Learning how to start a blog and setting one up does not require you to have any special skills, knowledge of html coding or web development.

When you set up a blog, you can install something that is called a ‘content management system’, which is a program that is free and very easy to use that will allow you to have complete control over the look and feel of your blog.

Some basic computer knowledge is all you need, if you can send and email or use a word processing program then you will be able to run your own blog.

Myth 4. It is a complicated process

Essentially there are four steps in the process to start your own blog and they are all fairly straightfoward:

1. Choose a domain name – what will your site be called.

2. Sign up for some web hosting – were all the bit and parts to your site will be stored.

3. Install a program to help publish your posts – one click and it will be done for you when you buy your hosting.

4. Write your first post.

Do all this in under 15 mins.

The rest is up to you to write interesting, different blog posts that will make people want to come back time and time again.

But first you need a blog to get going.

So what are you waiting for, don’t pay someone else thousands of dollars to set up a blog, do it yourself in no time and all and get blogging!

6 Easy steps to start your own dot com SEO blog?

Step 1. You need a domain name

Very first step is to get a nice domain name for your SEO blog. Try Godaddy, hostinger, or namecheap, and search for coupons codes to get some discounts for your domain registration.

Step 2. You need a hosting account

Second most important step is purchasing a server account.

The hosting server account is a server space or computer you rent space from, so that your website files, emails, and other assets can be stored and every time a person access your website’s address, they see can actually see your blog.

You can purchase cheap hosting (under Rs.50 a month with Hostinger) until you need more power to run multiple websites (while your website keeps growing, the number of website visitors will increase automatically and you will need a better hosting service).

Until then, stick with the shared hosting plan which is coming at affordable price, it should keep your blog alive for at least a year.

Step 3. Map domain name and hosting account

Now that you have your domain name and a hosting account, you need to configure your domain name server, so that it points to your hosting account.

In your domain registrar’s account, you should be able to change your “Nameservers”.

Nameservers is nothing but a short url your hosting provider assigns you in order to point to their own servers for our registered domain.

Simply input your hosting name server address (ns1.domainnameserver.com and ns2.domainnameserver.com in most cases) and you should wait for like 2 hrs or less until they propagate and you will be able to start using the account.

Step 4. Install WordPress with Softaculous

After your name servers propagation is done, you will now need to login into your control panel (cpanel -usually located at trainerkarthik.com/cpanel).

Once logged in, the easiest way to install the WordPress Blog Platform is through “Softaculous”.

Softaculous is a small piece of software which is found in the cpanel, that allows you to install the whole wordpress with a single click.

Now look for the Softaculous icon and click on it.

Npw you can see a menu on the left side bar with various software categories like wordpress, magento, joomla etc.

Find the right blog category and look for “WordPress”, click on it and install it.

Type your website’s address in the browser to ensure it installed correctly.

Now that your WordPress software is installed, you may now proceed to log in to your website’s administration and get to know the dashboard.
